Stolen
In the park, there’s a college student stealing a kiss from a girl. In class he
steals glances at her. He stole a moment of her time to take her to lunch, and
she stole a dime from the change tray. He stole a drink of her iced tea.
She stole a french fry. They build a friendship, relationship, kinship through
these small thefts. When they steal, it brings them closer. To know the other is
carrying something of theirs.
Are other thefts like that? An object is better, sweeter, brighter because it
once belonged to someone else. Food tastes better. A moment is more precious,
because it is stolen.
